Waimea by many is referred to as the upland community and in Hawaiian meaning reddish water. It relates to a stream flowing from the mountain. The community of Waimea itself is beyond special. It is what so many living on the mainland and rural United States could only dream about in movies. Quiet cowboy country living and cool winter nights is what it is all about. The green lands of Parker Ranch (Official Website) and it's rich history only add just that right amount of stillness and exuberance. There are links and areas online where one could spend days and nights learning about Waimea and simply just never get enough, they saw the grass is greener on the other side or greener pastures are not too far in the distance. This would be the best way to describe Waimea and all that it offers it's community.
Typically the real estate count in Waimea for active listings stays around 50+ or so. This includes homes and land and very few seldom rare condos if any. Cool side and dry side are the two areas that residents refer to when asked where they reside. Many local businesses are home in the area including Ace Hardware, Foodland, First Hawaiian Bank, and Bank of Hawaii. Life without McDonald's wouldn't be the same and Waimea has that too. The only other McDonald's on the Big Island is one in Hilo and the other in Kailua Kona. With all this being said, local food restaurants are also making way in Waimea and our website's sidebar on the bottom right has all of the good ones mentioned below.
Most homes within Waimea are built from quality construction to withstand the heavy rain and hot Hawaii sun. Power washing has become a necessity when dealing with and living on the wet side. There are great parks in Waimea for families and all walks of live to enjoy. Anuenue Playground was built by the community with volunteers coming together as one to make it all surface to completion. For those who have lived or traveled the world all over, this playground is simply one of the best. The products it is made from is similar to the plastic Trek decking used in areas where the rain will have it's way with regular or even pressure treated wood. One of the greatest neighborhoods that Waimea prides itself on is called Sandalwood. These homes are all sitting on 1 acre plus open green lands. The ocean views are still available and the majority of the residences on the Makai side are selling for well over $1 million. The others located closer to the main road are in the low $800,000's respectively. Come see why Waimea is shaking the Big Island real estate prices and commanding new highs for everyone who wants a great way of life.
