The Big Island's Northwestern Coast holds a special place in many residents hearts. This fabulous natural location is called Spencer Beach Park. Incredible swimming, excellent fishing, and one of the most sought after parks for camping on the Big Island, there really is not much that you can't do here. Reservations for camping can be made through the Hawaii County website at the following link: Camping at Spencer Beach Park Reservations. This fine park was named after Samuel M. Spencer. He was one of the key players in developing the North Kohala Coast and also a former chairman of the Hawaii County of Supervisors. He served during the time period era from 1924 to 1944. He passed away in 1960 but obviously left behind an island legacy like no other.
Offering showers, shaded trees, a beautiful exotic beach, and picnic tables, Spencer Beach Park is a local favorite. It exhibits some of the most spectacular camping views anyone could ever ask for. With top quality snorkeling in the area, and even picnic tables, the county of Hawaii is surely taking care of this magical place. The park is centered around Ohai'ula Beach, which is quite simply a flat large pocket of white sand complimented by calm waters and pristine Hawaii beach and coastline views. A highly popular beach especially kid friendly and perfect for family beach time too. A ton of activities to do keeps this Hawaiian favorite having visitors, homeowners, and residents coming back for more.
Other focal points that add to Spencer Beach Park, are the brick barbeque grills, restrooms, showers, picnic tables, and the plenty parking that is readily available most days. If planning to camp at Spencer's please ensure that you have a permit in place. The original name dates back to roots and ties of King Kamehameha who built the Heiau in 1790 as a sacrificial temple. He later united the islands as we have all come to know. The waters at Spencer Beach Park are what really draws people towards this cherished place. The south side is where some of the most intriguing snorkeling can be explored and enjoyed.
