Top 100 Golf Courses - Hualalai Golf Course
Golf at Hualalai is by far one of the most rewarding outings anyone will ever experience in their lifetime. The pristine greens and lush fairways make the place look like heaven on earth and then some. Hualalai Golf Course is an 18 hole championship golf course designed by Robert Trent Jone Jr. on the Big Island of Hawaii. The course is located in the Kona Kohala district on the western side of the island, in the historic slopes coffee growing region of Hualalai. The golf course first opened for play in November 1996 and was named "Hawaii's Best New Course" by GOLF Magazine. The Hualalai Golf course is a championship golf having won many awards and accolades. It was designed by legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus and has stayed on par for the course as one of the most luxurious real estate golfing destinations in the world. The course is home to the annual Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai, a PGA Tour Champions event.
The course is set on 850 acres of rolling land and features lava outcroppings, palm trees, and valleys. The signature hole is the par four 18th, which plays 636 yards from the back tees. Tournament players have found the route to be one of the most challenging on the entire PGA Tour. There are many different golf courses in the world, but few compare to that of Hualalai Golf Course. The location and scenery of this place include ocean views, green fairways, and black distant lava in the background. Known for it's incredible views, the course winds through rolling green grass and the smell of the ocean waves nearby. Players can often see whales breaching out of the water during the winter months. Hualalai Golf Course is a multi play for any serious luxury golfer visiting the Big Island. One of the most intriguing aspects to this place is how on earth are they able to make and maintain such beautiful grass laid on top of an ancient Hawaiian lava field.
The course at Hualalai is one of only four Jack Nicklaus Signature Designs in the world, and it is east to establish as to why that is. The layout is stunning, incorporating natural elements like lava fields and tropical kiawe trees directly into the course. Other trees strategically placed and worked in were all part in keeping it as organic and original as possible. Because it is located on a volcanic island, you can expect some challenging terrain and unique holes. If you are lucky enough to even play on this course, it is certainly something to take off and mark from your bucket list in life. What also really makes this course so special is the variety of special holes. These unique holes include an island green, a lava tube tunnel, and a cliff hanging hole with a breathtaking view of the Pacific Ocean. This course also offers views of Mauna Loa, the largest active volcano on Earth. The course is also long, measuring 7,400 yards from the back tees. But do not let that scare you - there are plenty of options for golfers of all levels here, and even for beginners. Staying in the resort or one of the villas or vistas is a sure fire way to go living in pure luxury.
