If you love horseback riding, the Big Island of Hawaii is one of the best place in the world to do it. Horses have a longstanding opportunity and longstanding experience of living here in this magical place. The Paniolo is an essential part of the island's culture and history. Ranchers are happy to share their riding stories and expertise with you. Hiking, bicycling, and touring are a few of the ways to explore Hawaii's unique island. The island of Hawaii has many exciting possibilities for a memorable adventure. From breathtaking storytelling tours by horse drawn carriage to taking the reins and going on a genuine cattle drive. Chose from various beautiful environments to ride through, such as Kahua Ranch's upcountry pastures and the southern reaches of a historic trail to Kealakekua Bay, which includes swimming and scuba diving in the ocean. You will realize why horseback riding on the island of Hawaii is so unique as you ride through lush forest and old Hawaiian islands green views. All this on track to explore hidden Waipio's impressive waterfalls. Historic Kahua Ranch, located in North Kohala, provides riding journeys over its wide cow and sheep ranch. Unlike a traditional horseback adventure permits expert riders to moderate speed and ride in broad fields.
Dahuna Ranch is held and run by a Native Hawaiian family. It provides open range rides, cattle drives, and bike rides with stunning Waipio and Mauna Kea views. Horsemanship courses and trips are also available at the ranch. Over the previous two centuries of Hawaiian Paniolo culture, the Big Island has already been host to various farms. From the seat of your horse, see the lovely ranches with their steep rolling hills and rich flora. Beginner riders are encouraged to attend. Hawai'i has its variety of ranches, known as Paniolos, and a long tradition of horseback riding. The traditional culture of riding and hooking abilities was carried to the island by the Spanish cattlemen. The Hawaiian ruler hired these vanqueros to teach Hawaiians ranching and livestock skills to handle the numerous cows that were given to Hawaiian royalty as a gift but now are wandering the island nearly freely. On the Big Island, Waimea is Paniolo center and the place to go if you enjoy shopping and dining in cowboy country. Several horse riding tour providers are available near the Big Island's northwestern corner, approximately 15 to 20 minutes from Waimea.
These trips are offered and available for horseback riding tours from these following ranches: Ponoholo Ranch, Paniolo Adventures (five different rides to choose from). Dahana Ranch also provides rides that run between 1.5 to 2.5 hours in duration at their farms. Reservations are required for all rides near Hilo from the east side of the Big Island. The beautiful forests and waterfalls of this island area are famous for all the horsing needs and more. At the serene Hamakua Coast, 20 minutes north of Hilo, Wailea Horseback Adventures offers a 2.5 hour horseback ride with a waterfall swim as a bonus. One of the most magical tours is to go on horseback to see Waipio Valley. This is however a remote area and we only advise that it is seen through professional coordination and no other. Waipio Valley is undoubtedly the most significant area on the Big Island and not only because it is a lovely historic area, but because of it's amazing views and ocean waves crashing into the shores. Waipio on Horseback has a great reputation for offering excellent tours for everyone out there.
