Kau

A land so vast and untouched that those seeking solace, refuge, and serenity will typically find it here along this pristine Hawaiian real estate coastline. Kau is home is the most dramatic and scenic routes offering sprawling country and oceanfront estates like no other place in Hawaii. The famous South Point location is everyone's dream whether it means visiting or living along the road that goes down to it. There is one amazing condo development in Kau called Colony One at Sea Mountain. A superb and fantastic golf course frontage development with a stunning waterfront backdrop in the near distance. Kau is home to country living. A slower pace of life in which family and friendships still matter most. The residents living in this part of the Big Island understand what it means to be happy with all that you have and to enjoy the simpler things in life. No major malls, or massive chain brands exist making it the most unpretentious location in all of Hawaii's Big Island.

Homes here are considered more affordable than areas such as the Kohala or Hamakua Coast. However, the large acreage estates and rare oceanfront offerings can climb easily into the multi millions. The majority of the real estate listings in Kau are either single family homes or vacant land. There are some really impressive old charm plantation era listings as well that will leave the majority of us yearning to buy one. Kau is a very special part of the Big Island in that it really is away from it all. Hilo and Kona are each at least an hour to an hour and a half away in driving distance. It does have it's own hospital however and the schools in the area have produced some incredible graduates. Punaluu Black Sand Beach is more than just another beach. Sea Turtles are almost always spotted resting elegantly along it's shores where beachfront homes and surf huts line this fantastic oceanfront community. 

Homes particularly in the $400,000 to $700,000 price points in Kau are really wonderful in the sense that they typically have been custom built with care for primary residents to occupy them. During most searches there are approximately 80 or so single family residences on the market in the Big Island Hawaiii Information MLS system. The home expensive listings have been priced as high as $9 million. At times oceanfront large vacant land has also been offered in the $15 million and above price points. However, most real estate in the area is priced well below the one million dollar mark. Naalehu is a part of Kau that draws super incredible feelings of old Hawaii nostalgia. With one of the best known bakeries in the world (Punaluu Bake Shop), it is no wonder visitors and residents alike continue to come back time and time again for this famous bread. Lastly, the sleepy and quaint beautiful little town and village of Pahala is one of the finest hidden secrets in all of Hawaii. Amazing plantation era homes and some custom builds too. A remarkable place for sure.
