An ancient ocean fishing village turned luxury multi million dollar oceanfront community. The real draw to Puako even after all the luxury and prices come into the picture is that you do not have all of the super high resort HOA dues and fees. Not to mention some of the most beautiful water lagoons and tidepools imaginable. The Puako Petroglyph Archaeological Preserve is believed to have been carved somewhere between 1000 and 1800 A.D. The name for this amazing art for the Hawaiian people means images in stone which they call Ki'i Pohaku. Interesting enough that this amazing real estate community continues to maintain the old integrity of the highly sought after Hawaiian beach house lifestyle. The last census taken in Puako showed a registration of 215 households.
Puako is hidden. It is a last standing gem. It is the last available call to living free without all the rules and noise associated with luxury resort living. Some love it some do not. It is not for everyone, but deep down inside all of us, there is the free spirit that simply wants to live care free. Puako can be that place for all of us. The homes on the Mauka (Mountain) side of the main called Puako Beach Drive range in price from as low as the $800,000's to approximately $1.5 Million or more depending on the level of finishes and remodeling. On the ocean side the pricing is another story all together. Oceanfront majestic estates can reach as high as $8 to $10 Million. With the exception of one of the greatest listings of all time for 69-2014 Nani Paniau Place which is commanding an asking price of $23,900,000 most of the Puako dream homes are priced below $10 million currently.
The interesting make up of pricing on the oceanfront side in Puako is that you can also purchase an entry level oceanfront property for as low as $2.5 Million. It will more than likely need work but with the entire ambiance of Pauko having a beautiful beach life vibe, there really isn't any hurry to do so either if you choose not to. Vacant land in Puako is still attainable with a few listings being offered on market at any given time. Prices can range from $700,000 to well over $15 million for the best locations within the community. There are two really great real estate parts in Puako as well, there are the Puako Beach Condominiums which rarely become available and life just wouldn't be ecstatic without the Puako General Store. These two places simply compliment each other well and go hand in hand. It helps that they are pretty much connected and within steps of each other. Lastly, you can cross the street and be snorkeling or surfing through the public beach access in no time at all. That is Puako for you - just a simpler way to live.
