Golfing along the Kohala Coast on the Big Island is beyond a dream to many. The views of lush filled greens with ocean blue hues complement one another like nothing else on this planet. The golf enthusiast can enjoy two, world-class courses at the Mauna Kea Resort which are unrivaled in Hawaii. Whether you want to play golf on Mauna Kea or Hapuna, or even better, why not enjoy both at the same time? It was Robert Trent Jones Sr. who designed the Mauna Kea Golf Course. As a result of his efforts, what seemed to be a barren expanse of lava became the most popular golf course in Hawaii. The course features a challenging layout with holes that offer dramatic views of the ocean as well as holes located alongside the ocean. Golf at Mauna Kea continues to ensure a high standard of course design and beauty since 1964, ensuring its legacy of being the most picturesque and popular course in Hawaii. An ideal Hawaii golf vacation involves stunning views and a challenge to match. There can be no doubt that this famed 18-hole course has set the standard in Hawaii golf over the last several decades.

It has now evolved from a barren black field of lava to a lush golf course that stretches over the seaside cliffs, offering stunning views overlooking the sea, this course demands accuracy off the greens and the prevailing winds, along with a 3rd hole that stretches over the ocean for a totally unforgettable golfing experience. The course at Mauna Kea is one of the best courses in the world, although it is not a top-tier course from beginning to end. The holes in the game are a mixture of inspired and well-designed, as well as one that has fillers. Among the reasons for its aesthetic and memorable appeal are its landscapes and proximity to the ocean. An amazing course design and layout. Absolutely gorgeous and the luxury high end homes compliment the entire resort and course. Neither tee times nor play play speeds are enforced by a marshal or anyone else at the entrance to the course. It has a very relaxed atmosphere with little staff, and you seem to be able to leave whenever you wanted and just play at the club.

The terrain flows very well in this game. This is a course with a lot of second shots with an interesting green complex. As you travel throughout the course, the fairway bunker placements and the slopping of the course, the fairways require careful consideration of where you will place your tee shot. On the course, you will find breathtaking seaside cliffs, which will give you a view of the beauty of the real Kohala Coast. Coast winds and elevated greens require accuracy. On a windy day, a 20-0 yard distance may appear to be 1,000 yards. Also on the course are a number of bunkers dotted around the course. One of the most famous holes on the course is the third hole. In this historic par three, the player must carry their ball across a dramatic rocky shoreline, which is littered with hundreds of lost golf balls that have been left behind by previous players. A perfect 7 iron shot will do and it will leave you telling a story to your kids and grandkids for what will seem like a lifetime of eternity. It is recommended that golfers warm up by hitting a few balls on the practice range and putting green before taking part in this demanding course.
