At the helm of it all and in a luxury league of it's own, welcome to South Kohala. The Big Island's resort rich and amenity covered playground for the rich and famous. From the Kona Airport headed north along Highway 11 all the to Waimea and Kawaihae, you will find an oceanfront and white sandy beach coast like no other the world over. Six ultra high end resorts line the beaches coastline in which each one has it's own distinct flavor and way of life. For example at Kukio and Hualalai the golf is so exclusive that memberships can run in the $250,000 per year price range or more. At Waikoloa Beach Resort life is a bit more lax and affordable for that matter allowing even the average median income earner to afford a week away from their mainland home. The bread and butter of it all is that fact that no matter how wealthy or not, we are all able to have access and enjoyment of it all. Hawaii's beaches and coastline are open to the public and luxury resorts are not excluded. They all must provide access to the shoreline even if the parking and daily capacity is limited. South Kohala also have one of the best sunny weather displays available anywhere in the world. Very few are the days in which the rains pours here. Matter of fact, a typical month of rain will include no more than half an inch of rainfall.
Hapuna Beach is the most famous and well known beach in South Kohala and open daily. Sunsets are mesmerizing to say the least and the bbq and grill pavilions are exceptional too. Along this coast you will find homes, villas, condos, townhomes, and vacant land for sale. Even though there are several luxury oceanfront condos like Halii Kai, Mauna Lani Point, and Kolea, you will not find any major high rises on this coast. There used to be a time in Hawaii, especially on Maui when no high rise buildings were to ever be erected higher than the tallest palm tree. Mauna Lani Resort is a very unique and special place along the South Kohala corridor. The amount of super expensive and luxurious communities is really inceredible. Pauoa, 49 Black Sand Beach, Nohea, Laulea, Mauna Lani Point, and Ke Kailani (Now - One Ocean), are all definitely in need of exploration by those who expect only the best. South Kohala is an unspoiled paradise on the dry side of the Big Island of Hawaii.
Mauna Kea Resort is at the furthest northern end but the first of it's kind to be constructed. Dating back to 1964 Laurance D. Rockefeller decided to go for a swim at the famous crescent Kaunaoa Beach. Today what you see in the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel (Autograph Collection) and Hapuna Price, are the final and end results of masterful works of hotelier art. Single family estates such as Hapuna Beach Residences and Mauna Kea Fairways North and South are just 3 of the most exclusive gated communities in the $5-$20 million price range. Common reactions to those seeking a second luxury homes or tropical getaway are that they have never felt so safe, excited, and super relaxed like they do when they are here on this island. The Kohala Coast is known today by many as the millionaire and billionaire's play of refuge. Private lear jets lining the Kona Airport runways is a common site, especially on long holiday weekends. Above the resorts rests Waikoloa Village. A once quaint place for hotel workers and maintenance staff, it is now home to over 3,000 homes and counting. A new shopping plaza has been the perfect and much awaited addition to the area. Last and let's not forget, there is Puako. The finest little oceanfront snorkeling location in all of Hawaii couple with the most impressive luxury real estate.
