The Hawaii Tropical Bioreserve & Garden is a botanical garden located on the Big Island of Hawaii. the garden features a variety of tropical plants and trees and a butterfly house, a bird sanctuary, and several ponds and streams. The Bioreserve was founded in 1984 by Dan and Pauline Lutkenhouse, who purchased the property to conserve its natural beauty and create a place for people to learn about and appreciate tropical plants and animals. The Bioreserve is open to the public for tours, educational programs, and special events today.
The Hawaii Tropical Bioreserve & Garden is more than just a pretty place. It's also a working research facility, home to scientists who are studying everything from native Hawaiian plants to invasive species, making it an important part of conservation efforts in Hawaii. But even if you're not interested in the science behind the Bioreserve, it's still worth a visit. The gardens are beautiful, and the staff is passionate about sharing their love pf tropical plants and animals with visitors. The Bioreserve is open year-round, but the best time to visit is from late November to early April. his is when the weather is cooler and drier, and the plants are in bloom. In addition to the gardens, don't miss the butterfly house, bird sanctuary, and ponds.
The Bioreserve is located in Hilo on the Big Island of Hawaii. It's about a 45-minute drive from Kailua-Kona and 2 hours from Volcano National Park. The Bioreserve offers guided and self-guided tours of the gardens. Guided tours are available Monday-Saturday at 10:00am and 1:00pm. Self-guided tours are available daily from 9:00am to 4:00pm. Admission to the Bioreserve is $15 for adults, $10 for seniors and students, and free for children under 12. The Hawaii Tropical Bioreserve & Garden is a must-see for anyone visiting the Big Island of Hawaii. With its stunning gardens, unique features like the butterfly house and bird sanctuary and commitment to conservation, the Bioreserve is an unforgettable destination.
