The Volcano Golf & Country Club is located at the edge of the active Kilauea volcanic crater in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Its location alone, thirty miles picturesque drive from Hilo, makes this one of the most peculiar courses in the world, as well as the oldest and highest. From its location 4,000 feet above sea level in the island's chilly highlands region, the course provides panoramic vistas of Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea, with their snow tops in winter. The par-72, 18-hole course offers 6,547 yards of delightful play in a fresh atmosphere with clean, crisp air. The Volcano Golf & Country Club is a wonderful alternative for anyone looking for a relaxed game with plenty of time to focus on each shot. While the majority of this course, designed by Jack Snyder, is quite level, there are some rolling slopes that may create a challenge. 

Some of the greens are raised, as are nearly all of the tees. Water appears in four of the holes, in the shape of a pond and three ditches. The course layout is compact, so keeping the ball in play is essential for a successful round. While the 17th hole of Volcano Golf Course is regarded Hawaii's best par-5, the 425-yard long 15th hole is the most difficult. Players must hit a tee shot up a fairway that doglegs on one side and has high pine trees around the turn. Another consideration for golfers in this area is the volatile mountain weather. While the vistas are beautiful on clear days, the weather can change quickly. Nonetheless, playing golf in such a unique surroundings is a rewarding and refreshing experience.
