Today I spent some time previewing two amazing properties for a client of mine that is an artist. Like myself he is very picky and and has high taste for unique finishes and fine architecture. The Big Island of Hawaii is not all about resort properties with super expensive oceanfront estates. You can find beautiful cabin style loft ceilings and creative cottages all for well under a million and in some cases under $500,000. The challenge with these rare gems and finds is that they do not last very long on the market because of the demand for real estate that cannot be duplicated. Mu personal love for this type of property goes well beyond jut being a realtor and in sales. It is theses type of properties that can define who you are. It is these types of homes that remind us that what we do for a living can be fun and enjoyable as well.

Anyone can go and purchase a home from a well known large developer who continuously puts up the same floor plan or a couple of floor plans with modifications to them. To find one of a kind real estate in Hawaii you have to be patient. That means waiting until the right type of home comes up with all of the incredible bells and whistles that make it better than anything else out there. Most of the extremely hard to find homes are not in locations with HOA fees or CPR locations. These are the kind of listings that only belong in Architectural Digest. They are one of a kind custom designs where owners worked super close with a draftsman of their choice or architect that was nothing but super passionate about design something surreal. Even something out of the ordinary. Therefore, making it extraordinary.

The part that makes it very exciting for me as a realtor is that it breaths some new air into what we do day in and day out for a living. When you have been showing resort condos or property in Kona to investors for a few months at a time, it is really nice to go for a drive down to the South Kona Coast, Volcano Village, and even the Hamakua Coast for the matter. It is not just work at that point, it is a form of escape.

The photos attached below in this blog are from two completely different properties. One is just steps to the ocean and in essence you can actually smell the waterfront mist from the lanais and patios. The second is especially unique because it is from an elevation up in the mountain where is continues to rain every day making the vegetation and plants add to the tropical foliage all around the home.

Either way, it is very hard to find super rare designs at a time when it seems like everyone is in a hurry living in and building the same type of home as their neighbor. When it's all mostly about profits and the next business move, people should seriously slow down a bit and take the time to find a property that they know no one else has. That to me is the ultimate way to live. It should never be about the money, but instead about the experience. Seeing these two homes today has open up my way of thinking even more so for the better.
