Kona's fine arts are on full display in places that you could not even really imagine. Take for example the shopping area called Kona Commons. Along side Petco and Office Max in Kona along the path into the two stores sits one of the most brilliant pieces of artwork I have ever seen. A diver swimming in the ocean with lots of exotic wildlife turtles and fish a plenty. The tile work shows that whoever put their time in to make such a spectacle obviously knew what they were doing. It is a reminder that when we are caught up in the day to day activities of searching for the meaning of life it can be right in front of us. I have personally been to this store in Kona multiple times and why did it take so long to realize that right there on the wall exists this one of a kind piece.
The Big Island is a place that allows people to be themselves, to find refuge, to find meaning. We moved our kids back to this special place to become grounded once again. We are biased as many of our friends and family would say. That is ok. We know what we want in life. There has never been a more incredible place where there are so many hot spots to live in that it is hard to choose. Kailua Kona, Kohala Coast, Waimea, North Kohala, Hamakua... and the list goes on and on. Living in other parts of the country has given our family perspective. To know what we want but more than anything, to know what we do not seek. Artistry is so rampant on the Big Island that we almost forget it exists. This was a daily reminder to stop and listen. Listen and hear what is surrounding your every day tasks.
A trip in to Kona also has it's key points when it comes to beaches. They remind us of how short our time on earth is. When tourists sprawl across the sandy shores only to have to pack it up a few days later and fly back to their reality? That is our reality, we get the treasure of living here. We are lucky because we went for it and saw the value. The prices on the Big Island are doing nothing but continuing to go up. It is almost as if we do not need to sell the real estate here. It sells itself. Luxury Hawaii homes and condos are plentiful. Finding the one that suits your needs, now that is a specialty.
