Wishing All Canadians a Happy July 1st 2019

Today is Canada Day. At the young and innocent age of 6 the beautiful and amazing country of Canada took me in as one of it's own. I have never had any regrets in being a dual citizen with Canada and the US. In my personal opinion two of the greatest countries in the world. At 19 I landed a full tennis scholarship out of Ontario, Canada to come and play tennis for University of Hawaii at Hilo on the Big Island of Hawaii. One of the top tennis coaches on the planet once told me that no one has ever landed a full ride to Hawaii from his academy.

If it wasn't for the cold and dark days in the north, I may still be living there. So long as there are palm trees though? Canada is a special place but Hawaii has been home since those early days. There is much to be thankful for to both places. A lot goes into making sure that you cover all of your bases when purchasing or selling a home abroad. Especially, when it comes to taxes. We have the connections to good foreign tax attorneys and international lawyers here in Hawaii and in the US. 

Much has changed in the last 22 years since I first set foot on the Big Island. For one, the prices have shot through the roof. Where once you could purchase a home for half a million dollars, you are now looking at double or even more. That's right well over a million. If you are seriously looking to make a move then waiting is really not something you should be doing. If you don't do it now, then when will you? We receive a lot of inquiries on a daily basis and it's those that go for it who have never looked back. Price is what you pay and value is what you get.

There was also a time when I would fly direct on Air Canada straight out of Toronto and into Honolulu. Those are some really longs flights but what a nice relief when you got there knowing you did not have to change planes. With Kona having an international airport, it helps those who think the duration of the trip is too long. The other day, I had a potential client ask me from up north isn't Hawaill like 20 hours away? I said it depends, maybe from Europe.

The truth is that many simply don't know and are intimidated into thinking it is not possible or realistic to get here and nevertheless purchase a piece of exotic real estate. The reality is that it is not so bad. In the end, when you land in one of the most serene places ever, you will see why it was all very worth it.
